Eye Safety
Eye injuries are very common. These injuries may require missed workdays as you recover. The scariest thought is that the injury may cause permanent vision loss! With the proper eye protection, you can eliminate or lessen the severity of the eye injury or accident.
Common causes for eye injuries are:
- Flying objects (bits of metal, glass), particularly common with mechanics or anyone working with high speed grinding or cutting
- Particles, such as yard debris with lawn care
- Chemicals
- Any combination of these or other hazards
You should wear safety eyewear whenever there is a chance of eye injury. Anyone working in or passing through areas that pose eye hazards should wear protective eyewear.
Safety eyewear protection includes:
- Non-prescription and prescription safety glasses
- Goggles
- Face shields
- Welding helmets
The type of safety eye protection you should wear depends on the hazards in your workplace.
If you ever have an eye injury, see your eye doctor immediately! Infection can set in quickly, and metallic foreign bodies can actually begin to rust rapidly in the eye causing more inflammation and delaying the healing process.
Protect your eyes! Preserve your eyesight!
